A Nation in Crisis, A People in Darkness

The news broke several hours ago about the bombings in Boston. Shock, horror – What many are now calling a terrorist attack. Too many dead, too many wounded, too many families torn apart and too many people in fear and distress. We give our prayers, time, materials, blood, and money. Anything you can do to help – Now is the time.

It has been an awful start to the millennium for America and many other countries, and it’s carrying on. 9/11, Katrina, V-Tech, Sandy, Newtown, Boston and much in between. We are struck again and again, as a people and as a nation. We are exhausted and weary and starving for a semblance of normalcy. I’m afraid, however, that such a thing may not be in our grasp anytime soon. We will likely suffer yet again. Each time, we are driven further towards the edge. Panic seeps into the hearts of those who once laughed at the very notion.

Is there a light at the end of this tunnel? I think there is. We who live today may be too unfortunate to see it, but it’s there.

Just as there are periods of darkness in your own life, so too are these periods in the existence of our world. Even as nations fall and structures crumble, the people will always persevere. Our spirits can be strong when our minds and bodies are weak. We are again in crisis. Let us put our experiences and knowledge to use. We have come together and recovered many times before. We can survive again. We can thrive again!

Each one of us has to give it everything we got. In the coming months and years, it’s all or nothing. Stay safe out there.
